How to Build a Drawer Organizer
Organize your dresser with easy-to-build drawers with inserts.
Cut List
-Piece A - (2) cedar board pieces width of drawer minus 1/8"
-Piece B - (2) cedar board pieces depth of drawer minus 7/8"
-Piece C - (1) cedar board pieces length of Piece A minus 3/4"
-Piece D - (8) acrylic sheets: Length — distance from inside slot to inside slot of partition; Height — 1" less than interior height of drawer
Cut Cedar Pieces
Cut all cedar boards to 5" wide or the height of the interior dimensions of the drawer (Image 1). Cut two (Piece A) sections, two (Piece B) sections and a (Piece C) section, according to the cut list dimensions (Image 2).
Cut Slots
Cut 1/8" deep slots in the center of (Piece B) sections using a 1/2" straight router bit (Image 1). Using the same bit, notch a slot flush on either end of each (Piece A) at 1/8" deep (Image 2).
Mark for Dividers
Mark two 1" thick center lines down the length of the boards on the inside of (Piece A) sections and both sides of (Piece C) for the acrylic dividers. Ensure lines on all boards align.
Cut for Dividers
Cut 1/8" wide (width of the saw blade) slots on each center line mark at 3/16" deep using the depth stop on the chop saw and a backer board.
Attach Joints
Glue and nail all joints together.
Cut Acrylic
Cut eight (Piece D) acrylic sections according to the cut list with a table saw.
Apply Lacquer
Spray two coats of lacquer to the cedar frame, and let dry.
Insert Acrylic Dividers
Place acrylic dividers in frame (Image 1), and insert final frame into dresser (Image 2).
